Newcastle's Kuol joins Volendam on loan

Spurs sign 19-year-old forward Veliz (15)

Garang Kuol will spend the 2023-24 season on loan at Eredivisie side FC Volendam.

There was interest in Kuol from the Championship but, as reported last month, Newcastle’s preference was to send the 18-year-old to develop abroad.

Newcastle have chosen Volendam as Kuol’s next club because of the Eredivisie’s reputation for developing young players. The Premier League side have also loaned Yankuba Minteh to Feyenoord this summer, after signing the 19-year-old from Odense in Denmark.

Kuol joined Newcastle from Central Coast Mariners in January and the plan for him was always to spend the next 18 months on loan.

Burnley are in talks to extend winger Manuel Benson's contract.

The 26-year-old, who joined from Royal Antwerp last season played a key role in Burnley's Championship winning campaign, scoring the goal which sealed the title in a 1-0 win against Blackburn Rovers.

As well as strengthening their squad, Burnley have prioritised rewarding key players with new deals, with Anass Zaroury agreeing to a new five year deal last week.

Hodgson on Olise future: 'He will have a decision to make'

Spurs sign 19-year-old forward Veliz (36)

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has admitted that Micahel Olise may "have a decision to make" amid growing speculation about his future.

The Athletic previously reported that the 21-year-old winger is attracting interest from Manchester City and Chelsea, but Hogdson believes that Palace is a good place for the winger to continue his development.

He told Sky Sports: “If there are clubs that are seriously preparing a bid to tempt him away then he’ll have a decision to make."

I can only wait and see because he also knows that we are really keen on keeping him here and we really believe that this is a good place for him and that we can provide him with a really good platform to go forward in his career, but unfortunately, these matters are totally out of my hands."

Why do City and Chelsea want to sign Olise?

Kane leaning towards staying at Spurs

Bayern Munich and Tottenham remain apart in their valuation of Harry Kane following fresh talks, with the striker leaning towards staying at the Premier League club as it stands.

The Athletic reported on Monday that Spurs had rejected a third proposal from Bayern for Kane after seeing bids in June and July turned down.

Talks over a potential transfer continued on Monday evening but a gap remains over the sum needed to prise the England captain away from north London.

Bayern’s interest remains but Kane, who could leave on a free transfer next summer, is reluctant to move once the new season has started.

Man United reject West Ham bid for McTominay

Spurs sign 19-year-old forward Veliz (49)

Manchester United have rejected West Ham United’s £30million bid for Scott McTominay but are continuing talks over Harry Maguire.

The Athletic reported on Monday that the London club had offered £30million for Maguire, and though this has not been accepted at Old Trafford, negotiations are ongoing.

A separate £30million bid from West Ham was made for midfielder McTominay. This was turned down, however, with United valuing the 26-year-old at more than £40million. Erik ten Hag would ideally like to keep hold of McTominay.

Spurs sign 19-year-old forward Veliz (56)

Kyle Walker has decided to stay at Manchester City, despite reaching a previous agreement to join Bayern Munich.

Walker had last month verbally agreed terms with the Bundesliga champions after commencing talks over a potential summer move in June.

But the clubs had not settled on a fee at that stage and the 33-year-old has changed his mind as it stands, following talks with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

Walker is now considering whether to accept City’s second contract offer, which is worth more than Bayern’s.

Brighton's Weir sends Caicedo message: 'Focus on your football'

Spurs sign 19-year-old forward Veliz (63)

Brighton and Hove Albion technical director David Weir has praised Moises Caciedo's professionalism amid growing transfer speculation surrounding the midfielder.

The club have rejected several bids for the 21-year-old Ecuador international, but Weir has praised Caicedo and advised the youngster to continue to "focus on his football."

Weir told Sky Sports: "It is really clear for us I think. Moises is our player. He is under contract. He has been fantastic for us in terms of what he has done on the pitch. He has been a big part of our success and that remains the case.

"There has been a lot of information in the media. There has been a lot of talk. But from our perspective, we would love Moises to be here for longer but we are also realistic in terms of what the marketplace looks like. Until something happens that works for us as a club that will remain the case."

"We know it is not easy for the player either. Players do have challenges. Everyone sees the media and that is difficult for Moises. We had a situation in January and we would like to think that we helped him with that.

"He showed his quality when he was on the pitch and that is always the best solution. To do your talking on the pitch. The message to him is to focus on your football and let us take care of the rest and we will see how that develops."

Why did Newcastle sign Livramento?

After his ACL injury, Livramento had an entire season out, but Newcastle could be the ideal environment in which to make his return.

With Trippier first choice — and likely to remain that way in the mid-term — there is no pressure on Livramento to immediately return to his previous heights.

Nevertheless, competing on four fronts offers the opportunity for game time. The Newcastle coaching staff recognise that, at 32 years old, Trippier cannot play virtually every match again, as he did last season.

Newcastle did not need a right-back. But Livramento could be Trippier’s long-term successor.

Find out why Newcastle signed Livramento below

Newcastle sign Livramento from Southampton

Newcastle United have completed the £40million signing of Tino Livramento from Southampton.

Livramento has signed a five-year deal with the club and the youngster spoke of his excitement at the opportunity to play in the Champions League this season.

He said: “I’m really excited to have signed for Newcastle United and I’m looking forward to playing in front of the fans.

“I was here for the games over the weekend; even though they were friendlies, there were so many fans and they were still so loud so I can’t wait to see what it feels like to play in front of them in a Premier League or Champions League game.

“The way the manager plays football is really attractive and I feel like it suits me as a player. And with how well the team did last season, the trajectory that we’re on now, I’m just looking forward to being a part of that.

“And to be able to learn from Kieran Trippier is another big thing for me; hopefully he teaches me how to become a better player and a better full-back.”

Has Hojlund's move to Man United come too soon?

Spurs sign 19-year-old forward Veliz (99)

Hojlund is 20 years old.

He has only one season of experience in a top-five European league having joined Atalanta from Austrian side Sturm Graz last summer.

At Atalanta, Hojlund started 20 league fixtures, scoring nine times.

He completed 90 minutes in the Italian Serie A on only five occasions.

For the Danish national team, Hojlund has played a full game only twice, against Finland and Kazakhstan (he scored five goals in those two games).

Why is the first season under Pep Guardiola is always tough?

Spurs sign 19-year-old forward Veliz (106)

“I spoke to quite a few of the lads about their first season at City and how difficult they found it,” Kalvin Phillips says.

“They said exactly the same thing, saying it takes at least 12 months for somebody to really understand what the manager wants you to do, the way he wants you to play and how he wants you to work.”

The list of top players who have taken at least one season to show their best level at Manchester City is growing, with Jack Grealish joining the likes of Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez, Rodri, Joao Cancelo and Nathan Ake.

The challenge for Phillips, after a disappointing first season at the Etihad Stadium, is to do the same.

Ahead of new signing Josko Gvardiol's debut season at the club, find out why the first season under Pep Guardiola is always tough below

Vaclik turns down Saudi move

Spurs sign 19-year-old forward Veliz (113)

Former Huddersfield goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik has turned down an offer to play in the Saudi Pro League.

The 34-year-old is a free agent after leaving the Championship club earlier this summer. He signed a short-term deal in January and played 13 times as Neil Warnock's side won six of their last nine matches to avoid relegation.

Vaclik was then offered a contract by Al Raed — based three hours away from Saudi capital Riyadh — but despite being in line for a significant salary increase didn't agree to personal terms. The Czech Republic international is keen to stay in contention for the remaining Euro 2024 qualifiers and to reach the tournament in Germany next summer. Czech Republic are unbeaten at the top of Group E having won two of their three opening fixtures against Poland and Faroe Islands.

Vaclik — who previously played for Sparta Prague, Basel, Sevilla and Olympiacos — has also considered offers from Club Bruges in Belgium and FC Koln in Germany but moves have not progressed. He is still reviewing other options to secure a move for the new season.

Serie A's transfer standstill - what's going on?

Ever heard the one about the tiger, the cow and the horse?

Nope. Me neither until Serie A’s sporting directors got together at the Grand Hotel Rimini for their annual dinner to mark the formal opening of the transfer window on July 1.

Inter Milan’s chief executive Beppe Marotta was holding court and, raconteur that he is, had a parable for the state of Italian football. “Football clubs are at times perceived as fierce tigers to be hunted and killed. Other times they’re seen as cows to be milked. Few people, however, look at them as pack horses pulling a cart with a very heavy load. We’re often mischaracterised,” he said.

Why is there almost a complete Serie A standstill on transfers? Read more below
